Clean-out Medicine Cabinets for Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

On Saturday, April 28 the City of Austin in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will offer residents a free and anonymous way to safely dispose of expired or unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, insulin and needles. Austin will have four locations available for drop-off.

Austin Take-Back Locations: Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Northeast: Cornerstone Church (1101 Reinli Street)

South East: City of Austin Household Hazardous Waste Facility (2514 Business Center Dr.)

Central: University of Texas, Student Services Center (100 West Dean Keeton)

West: Barton Creek Square Mall (2901 S. Capital of Texas Highway)

The misuse and improper disposal of expired and unwanted prescription drugs is a growing problem in our country affecting children, teens and adults as well as potentially our water supply. 

Disposing of expired or unwanted medicines at the Austin take-back event will ensure that these medicines don’t get into the wrong hands or pollute our waterways. 

A federal government-sponsored National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that more Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens, methamphetamines and heroin combined.

Austin #1 Again!

Let's first set the record straight. We are NOT taking the easy way out and re-posting an old story. Austin, once again, has been named #1 city in the U.S. This time, it happens to be #1 best place for small businesses. It makes perfect sense to those of us who live here, but it's nice to see it in writing, and even nicer that it has been verified through a series of calculations. A recent report from  of the Austin Business Journal states "The U.S. market that provides the best opportunities for small businesses to grow and prosper is Austin, which also finished first in On Numbers' rankings for 2011 and 2010."  This was based on a calculation of population growth, private sector employment growth and concentration of small businesses per 1,000 residents.  Read the entire story here...
